WVU head coach Rich Rodriguez is certainly no stranger to building a successful program. He's led four different programs at the FBS level, and all but one of those programs found great success during his tenure with Rodriguez at the helm. He's been a head coach for over a quarter-century between all of his combined collegiate head coaching stops, and has had to rebuild programs multiple times.

But success when stepping into a new job isn't always easy, as Rodriguez found out during his previous tenure with WVU when he went 3-8 in the first season of his first stint with the Mountaineers And given the fact that he overhauled the coaching staff and is leading a roster of over 80 new players, it's not necessarily surprising that there have been struggles to contend with as WVU enters Week 6 of the season at 2-3. And while Rodriguez is confident in his own abilities, he can understand why WVU fans are upset with the rough opening to the 2025 season, particularly after he replaced a coach who became infamous in Morgantown for his mediocre tenure.

“I know what the hell I’m doing, and I take comfort in that. But I understand the frustration," Rodriguez said on The Rich Rodriguez Show this past week.

During the segment where he discussed fan frustrations, he seemed to be imploring the fans to have some patience with his rebuild and not to expect overnight success for the Mountaineers just because he was back in charge. However, he shared that he can also relate to the lack of patience, and those closest to him can attest to that.

"Nobody has any patience, but I understand that. Because you can ask my family, no one has less patience than me," Rodriguez said.
