With the kickoff to West Virginia’s football season under a week away, there is a palpable excitement surrounding the program and the return of college football to Morgantown for the first time in nine months.

Rich Rodriguez gives another reason to feel good about WVU football in 2026
On Monday night, Rich Rodriguez appeared on the season's first edition of The Rich Rodriguez Show, and when discussing how the coaching staff went about rebuilding the roster this off-season, he gave some encouraging insight that should be a green flag for West Virginia fans.
“I think overall, there is a lot more competition to play at all the positions,” Rodriguez said. “We have competition at just about every position, and we couldn't say that a year ago.”
More competition is always a good thing, especially when the lack of competition in the previous season led to a four-win outing. It was clear from the product put onto the field last year that the Mountaineers did not have the required talent they needed.
These types of comments from Rodriguez make it feel like he's happier with the talent he has assembled this year, and that can only be a good thing for the Mountaineers.
