It feels like this will be a topic of conversation for the rest of the season at this point, so let's get it out of the way: after a third consecutive loss to open Big 12 play, with West Virginia's defense giving up 138 points over those three games, will Zac Alley be relieved of his duties as West Virginia's defensive coordinator?

Well, that question was asked during West Virginia's post-game press conference following the 52-31 loss to Arizona on Saturday, and Rich Rodriguez offered up an answer on what the immediate future holds for Zac Alley. And it might not be what the fans want to hear.

West Virginia not making immediate change in playcaller on defense after Arizona loss

Rich Rodriguez seems prety fed up with his team's defense, but he doesn't appear to be so fed up he's ready to make a move. When asked if a change was coming after the game, Rodriguez said he is not making such a move currently.

"No," Rodriguez said. "Fair question. Not at this point."

Now, granted, Rodriguez also said some "long conversations" would be had this weekend about the defense in particular, so it is possible his tune on this matter changes before the Mountaineers get to game prep for next week's showdown with Cincinnati. But right now, it appears that Zac Alley's job is safe.

But the fan base is certainly not going to be happy with that answer, as there was at least one "Fire Zac Alley" sign spotted inside Milan Puskar Stadium on Saturday. And if Rodriguez isn't willing to make some sort of changes defensively as the defense continues to churn out disappointing performances, he might be at risk of losing fan support.

One thing that is clear is that things are not working, and that despite taking accountability this past week for it and promising changes, things have not improved in a way give fans any hope of a reprieve this season.
