Next week, fall camp starts for the West Virginia Mountaineers, and a roster filled with around 80 new players will take the field for the first time as a unit. But one player that was expected to be apart of the team won't be around when that happens.
The Mountaineers signed a massive recruiting class this past year, encroaching on 50 names. And one of those additions was linebacker Trey McGlothlin, a three-star prospect out of Oklahoma. He was a late addition on signing day after de-committing from Oklahoma State. But now, it appears his time with the program may be over before it really had a chance to begin.

In the latest roster update, McGlothlin was removed from the roster, depriving the Mountaineers of one member of their linebacking corps. It is not clear why he has departed the team, or if he will be enrolling somewhere else to play this fall.
It is unlikely that the young linebacker would have seen much, if any, action this fall, as the Mountaineers have a veteran linebacking corps filled with experienced players, as well assome underclassmen returning from last year expected to step up and make an impact this year. So in the short-term, this has little impact on the team's potential success this coming season.
The Mountaineers will still have an eight-man linebacking corps, includig returners with significant experience such as Ben Cutter and Ashton Woods, as well as several transfers with Power 4 experience. So expect the room to be in good hands this season despite McGlothlin's departure.
