The West Virginia Mountaineers lost their second consecutive game on Saturday, as they gave up 577 yards to the Iowa State football and lost 45-42. If that stat line didn't clue you in, there's a hole somewhere on this team, and it's pretty obvious to find. And it seems like Rich Rodriguez feels the same way.

Rodriguez delivered a post-game press conference following the loss, and you could tell that he was not happy with the team's defensive effort against the Cyclones. He made that crystal clear in some of his comments on the defense's performance

"Just poor," Rodriguez said about the defense. "Two games in a row that's atrocious defense. They ran hard and they got some good players, but we just.... I don't know. I thought we were fixing some of those issues, but it certainly didn't look like it. We got to do a better job. 29 first downs, 577 yards, two game-winning drives. All we needed was a stop. It's just – ugh. It's hard to watch."

Rich Rodriguez's quote on defense speak volumes about his feelings on Zac Alley's performance s defensive coordinator

You probably don't need to ask Rich Rodriguez to give an evaluation on how Zac Alley's performing through the first five games of the season. His comments about the defense aren't hiding how he feels. He's unhappy, and quite frankly, he should be. West Virginia's offense did everything they needed to do in order to win.

All West Virginia needed, in the words of Rodriguez, ws a stop. And Zac Alley's defense couldn't get a single one late in the game. It's not the first time Rodriguez has been upset with the defense either. After giving up over 600 yards to Oklahoma State last week, Rodriguez said that the defensive plan had failed, and it was on him to make sure that they had a plan that could win.

Now, it might be time for Rodriguez to make some hard decisions about just how to fix it. Because despite his assurances that it would get fixed after Oklahoma State, the defense went out and laid another all-time stinker of a performance. Rodriguez clearly isn't happy. Now, we just have to wait and see what he's going to do about it.
