The West Virginia Mountaineers put together an absolutely incredible season over the past few months on the baseball diamond, and members of the team continue to be recognized and rewarded for their efforts even after the season has come to a close.
On Thursday, D1Baseball released their All-American Teams, and WVU baseball found themselves well-represented among the First-Team unit. Two West Virginia stars found themselves listed among the 17 selections to the list.
Maxx Yehl, Gavin Kelley are named First-Team All-Americans
Pitcher Maxx Yehl and utility player Gavin Kelly were the two Mountaineers who were rewarded for their standout 2026 efforts with First-Team All-American honors.
Yehl was named the Big 12 Pitcher of the Year for his work on the bump this season as well, made 18 starts for WVU this season, posting a 2.13 ERA and earning a 9-3 record. He pitched 97 innings over the course of the season, tossing 112 strikeouts and allowing just 33 runs. He also held his opponents to just a .222 batting average.
Kelly, meanwhile, split time between catcher and second base, and excelled in both roles. A top 2027Â MLB Draft prospect, he made 63 starts, and recorded 350 putouts, helped turn 16 double plays, and suffered just six errors in the field.
And at the plate, he maintained a .382 average across the course of the season and recorded a .725 slugging percentage and a .477 on-base percentage. He tallied 96 hits, 70 runs, and 63 RBI, and among those hits were 25 multi-base hits and 19 home runs – the latter of which tied the single-season program record.
Both players have earned All-American honors from at least five separate organizations this year, earning them the distincting of becoming just the fourth and fifth players in program history to do so – joining Chris Enochs, Alek Manoah, and JJ Wetherholt. Yehl also landed a sixth All-American nod, joining Manoah and Wetherholt as the only players to do so.
