The DeVries era begins this fall for West Virginia basketball as the combination of new Mountaineers head coach Darian DeVries and his son, senior guard/forward Tucker DeVries, look to kick things off right in Morgantown.
And according to the official NCAA college basketball correspondent and Big Ten Network analyst Andy Katz, there is plenty of reason to get excited about the younger DeVries and what he could bring to the hardwood for WVU this fall.
Katz released his rankings of fourth-year seniors across all Division 1 college basketball entering the 2024-2025 season, and Tucker DeVries clocked in at No. 4 on the list. Earlier this month, Katz also named DeVries sixth on his list of Top 16 Wings (SG, SF, PF) as well
The younger DeVries follows his father to Morgantown after a stint with Drake, where he was named Missouri Valley Conference (MVC) Player of the Year in back-to-back seasons (2022-23, 2023-24) and averaged 21.6 points, 6.7 rebounds and 3.7 assists per game as a junior en route to Drake finishing 28-7 and making an NCAA Tournament appearance. Earlier this summer, DeVries discussed the competitive streak he brings to Morgantown that helps make him one of the best seniors in the nation.
"I just want to win. Weβre going to do everything we can to go out there and be as successful as possible. I think youβll see how hard the group will play and Iβd like to say I'm in that category as well," DeVries said in an interview with WVU outlet Hoops from the Hills
