After setting a Canadian national record in the 3000-meter steeplechase earlier this year, West Virginia senior Ceili McCabe captured the Canadian National Championship in the event on Thursday, earning herself a spot at the 2024 Olympics in Paris in the process.
McCabe competed in the steeplechase at the Bell Canadian Track and Field Championship and crossed the line with a mark of 9 minutes, 32.97 seconds -- she completed the race nearly 10 full seconds ahead of the second-place finisher.
The win marks McCabe's second national championship in the event, as she captured the gold at the 2022 Canadian Track and Field Championships. She also finished in second-place in the event at the national meet in 2023. Earlier this season, she captured the Canadian national record in the event at the Los Angeles Grand Prix, clocking a time of 9 minutes, 20.58 seconds in the race.
