WVU track redshirt junior Cassandra Williamson has had an incredible 2024 season, which saw her shatter records and advance to the NCAA Division 1 Track and Field Championship. This week, she looked to extend her season with a trip to the Olympic Games as she competed in the Canadian Track and Filed Championships in the 800-meter run -- however, she would fall a bit short of that goal on Friday night.

Taking the track for the events preliminary heats, Williamson competed in the latter of two races and crossed the line in 2 minutes, 8.58 seconds -- her mark was multiple seconds slower than her personal best, and she finished last in her heat. Overall, she took 16th place out of the 18 competitors.

Despite the disappointing finish, the honor of competing amongst the best in her nation and the incredible accomplishments of her 2024 season prove that Williamson is a rising star in the sport, and that she has done a fantastic job representing WVU on the track.
