WVU kicker Michael Hayes first half MVP against Penn State
By Joseph Smith
Some might say it's never a good thing when your special teams players end up being the most valuable member of the roster on gameday. But as WVU fights to keep it close with a Top 10 ranked Penn State, kicker Michael Hayes has single-handedly kept WVU's hopes alive.
The Mountaineers trail by 14, and their offense has struggled to even come close to finding the end zone. But WVU was able to get into field goal range a couple of times, and Hayes converted both of his attempts with a long of 39 yards.
Field goals alone likely won't help the Mountaineers climb back into the game, but if the offense begins to put it together and make it close, those field goals become invaluable.
