Following a 2-0 record to start the season, West Virginia women's soccer lost its second-consecutive game in a 3-1 defeat at the hands of No. 12 Penn State on Thursday.

The Mountaineers struggled to convert on early opportunities, and the Nittany Lions took control early. Penn State jumped out to a dominant start and led 2-0 at halftime. West Virginia's lone goal came in the 90th minute from junior forward Ajanae Respass.

The Mountaineers actually outshot Penn State 14-13 in the contest, but Penn State was able to gain the edge when it came to placing shots on goal. That consistency paid off as the Nittany Lions were able to wear down both starting goalkeeper Mackenzie Smith as well as reserve Bailey Herfurth.

Following a pair of losses on the road, WVU prepares to return to Morgantown on Sunday for a clash with Robert Morris. The match kicks off at 5 p.m. ET at Dick Dlesk Soccer Stadium , and fans are encouraged to wear gold attire to complete a “Gold Rush” theme.
