A pair of WVU track athletes are set for competition at the Canadian Bell Track and Field Championships this week. With this year's national championship also serving as the Canadian Olympic Trial for the 2024 Paris Olympics, a trip to the grandest stage in track and field will also be on the line for both women.
WVU senior Ceili McCabe is set for action in the senior women's 3,000-meter steeplechase, with the event final set for June 27th at 7:13 p.m. ET. McCabe dropped a Canadian national record in the event at the Los Angeles Grand Prix in Los Angeles, California, on May 17th. Her mark of 9 minutes, 20.58 seconds also met the 2024 Olympic standard, and she also holds the WVU program record in the event with the time.
Joining McCabe will be WVU redshirt junior Cassandra Williamson, who will compete in the senior women's 800-meter event. Williamson will enter off the momentum of a season which saw her shatter her own program record at WVU in the 800-meter and advance to the NCAA Championships in the event. Semifinals for the event are scheduled for June 28th at 7:14 p.m. ET.
