New West Virginia men's basketball coach Darian DeVries continues to fill out his staff in Morgantown, with two new additions coming in the latter portion of August.

DeVries didn't have to look far to find his new Director of Basketball Operations in Garrett Sturtz. Sturtz was first a player for DeVries at Drake before joining his staff as a graduate assistant.

"We are excited to have Garrett joining our staff here at West Virginia," DeVries said. "As a former player and graduate assistant for me at Drake, he has a tremendous understanding of how we do things and will fit in great with our staff."

Sturtz fits the gritty West Virginia mentality, joining Drake's roster as a walk-on and earned a starting role, becoming the program's career rebounding leader at 917. He is also sixth all-time at Drake in career steals with 178. He is Drake's all-time winningest player with 120 victories, and the only player in program history to record both 1,300 points and 900 rebounds.

DeVries also added Inwood, W.Va. native Ryan Horn the Assistant Director of Strength and Conditioning for Men's Basketball. Horn has spent stints with numerous Division 1 programs, but was last at Drake as the Assistant Athletic Director of Sports Performance where he helmed all sport performance programs, sport science and departmental initiatives for 16 sports. He worked directly with DeVries and his program at Drake in the role.
