It was a historic 2023-2024 season for West Virginia’s men’s golf team which saw them achieve unprecedented success on the course. But it turns out they didn’t let that distract them in the classroom.
It was announced Tuesday that the Mountaineers have been named All-Academic Team by the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA), an honor given each season to teams who maintain a collective program GPA of 3.0 and above.
With the honor, it marks the seventh time in the past eight seasons the Mountaineers have achieved the feat, demonstrating excellence in the classroom for head coach Sean Covich’s program. He credits the team’s academic staff for helping keep the team on track in school.
"I am very proud of our guys and their hard work in the classroom this season," Covich said. "It's never easy balancing a busy travel schedule with a demanding academic workload, but the guys managed to achieve success in the classroom and on the golf course this season. A big thank you goes out to our academic staff, mainly Bree Porter, who makes sure the guys have what they need to get their academic work completed."
