There were good vibes aplenty and an electric atmosphere in Morgantown on Saturday as West Virginia football opened their season against No. 8 Penn State. But none of it really mattered when lined up against a superior Penn State team.

The Nittany Lions rolled into town and handled business efficiently, jumping out to an early lead and never looking back as they steamrolled WVU in a 34-12 victory.

"We were more explosive in game one, so that was great," Penn State head coach James Franklin said. "Our defense played gutsy all day long. this was a good step on the road in a hostile environment."

The Nittany Lions demonstrated superior skill and athleticism on both sides of the ball, looking every bit of the playoff contender they are considered by many to be. They held WVU to just 246 yards offensively and forced three turnovers, limiting the Mountaineer offense in every facet of the game. They also put in an impressive offensive effort themselves, racking up over 450 yards of total offense.
