The verdict is in: after West Virginia dropped to 1-2 on the season after blowing a 10-point fourth quarter lead to bitter rival Pitt in the Backyard Brawl Mountaineer Nation has already begun to react to the loss. And it seems a lot of fans, media, and program alumni alike might be ready to turn the page on the Neal Brown era.
It's not been uncommon for postgame hot takes from the fan base to be sour on NWVU's head coach during his mixed bag of a tenure in Morgantown, but it doesn't bold well that one of the first and loudest anti-Brown tweets on 'X' following the loss was MetroNews personality Randy Gyorko, who has spent plenty of time covering the program. He signaled that despite Brown's repeated asking of the fanbase to "Trust the Climb" that said climb might be coming to a close.

Another damning indictment of the loss and the state of the program came from College Gameday analyst and former WVU kicker Pat McAfee, who shared a simple two-word response in the aftermath of the defeat.
Not great.

Gyorko and McAfee weren't the only people amongst Mountaineer Nation that were disheartened by the loss though, with many voicing their frustrations that Neal Brown isn't the correct coach for the job.
I’ll leave it with this message because I’m getting bombarded:

The climb is over
Neal Brown is not the coach for WVU.

Even those in the WVU online community who feel they have given Brown plenty of chances and time are now starting to turn on the sixth-year head coach, with the morale of Mountaineer supporters clearly deflated and many asking if Brown is even a good coach.
I’m one of the most levelheaded, reasonable, & understanding WVU fans there is. I love all things WVU, even when my team(s) are struggling. However, I’ve never been more deflated as a fan than I am now. I’ve kept quiet on HCNB & supported him, until now. Clean house.

I've defended Neal Brown more than anyone. He's a great dude that understands this state like few others do. But being a good guy doesn't make you a good coach, and he's definitely not a good coach.

Even fans of WVU in-state rival Marshall, who has never managed a victory on the gridiron against the Mountaineers, got in on the fun of trashing the WVU for their blown fourth-quarter lead turned heartbreaking loss.

If this is the loss that eventually costs Brown his job leading WVU football, some WVU fans already have an idea of a native West Virginian and national championship winning former coach who could take the job.
