West Virginia baseball smashes Pittsburgh 11-1, completes 2024 Backyard Brawl sweep

West Virginia baseball completed a season sweep of rival Pittsburgh in this year's second edition of the Backyard Brawl, running away with an 11-1 victory Tuesday night in front of a national audience on ESPN2.
Mountaineer junior Grant Hussey etched his name in the record books, setting the all-time program home run record with as he smashed a pair of balls out of the park, while the Mountaineers moved to 6-0 all-time in the MLB stadium.
WVU (27-16) defeated Pittsburgh (18-23) behind a 14-hit performance, with five Mountaineers earning multiple hits and seven striking the ball at least once.
On the mound, sophomore Gavin Van Kempen earned the win for WVU, tossing four strikeouts and three scoreless innings as he recorded his seventh win of the season. Junior Tyler Switalski also played a major role on the mound as he struck out five batter in two innings of work.
