West Virginia baseball defeats Dallas Baptist 4-1 to open NCAA Regional play
By Joseph Smith
West Virginia baseball got back on the right track following a disappointing Big 12 tournament performance with an opening round NCAA Regional win against Dallas Baptist on Friday.
The Mountaineers tallied eight hits and saw no errors Friday as they outscored the Patriots 4-1. WVU's Reed Chumley, Logan Suave, and Sam White led the team with two hits each at the plate, with Suave knocking a home run out of the park en route to scoring two runs and driving home three RBIs in a big performance.
On the mound, WVU was led by Derek Clark, who pitched all nine innings -- he only gave up one run and tossed eight strkeouts in the dominant performance.
WVU (34-22) advance in the winner's bracket of the regional tournament, where they will face the winner of tonight's Arizona/Grand Canyon matchup. The two winners will meet Saturday night at 10 p.m. Eastern Standard Time.
