While West Virginia and Penn State fans are both hoping for a smooth opening to the 2024 season as their teams clash this Saturday, the weather could potentially make things a little dicey.

While it’s still a tad bit early to know for certain, early forecasts for Morgantown on Saturday are mostly in sync as they predict it’s likely to be a rainy day in the area. The Weather Channel is calling for an 84 percent chance of precipitation, while Accuweather projects a 73 percent chance of precipitation.

While the rain itself can dampen the spirits of what’s sure to be a big crowd, it’s not a huge deal in terms of affecting the playability of the contest. One thing that might do so, however, is a round of thunderstorms, which could easily cause interruptions and delay the game. The Weather Channel forecast predicts that “thunderstorms [are] likely” on Saturday in Morgantown, while Accuweather lists a 44 percent chance of thunderstorms.

If luck works out and the thunderstorms pass over Morgantown and the rain stays sparse, fans can otherwise expect a normal and pleasant gameday experience. Both forecasts call for the temperature to peak in the mid-80s and for moderate humidity, with periods of intermittent sunshine expected.
