To play, or not to play: should West Virginia, Marshall play a home-and-home football series?

IRONING OUT THE DETAILS

If the series was to resume, a number of details would need to be ironed out. Does the host site get rotated yearly in a normal home-and-home structure, or does the WVU command more home games due to it's place in a Power 4 conference? Some will argue WVU should never travel to Huntington to play.

The basketball series was often hosted at the Charleston Civic Center, so some may offer a neutral site as an acceptable compromise. A number of the state championship host bids, such as Laidley Field in Charleston, Wheeling Island Stadium in Wheeling, and Mitchell Stadium in Bluefield could be viewed as potential sites, but none really boast the facilties needed for or captures the environment of a Divison 1 football game.

The amount paid to Marshall would be up for debate, as smaller Group of 5 schools often earn significant paychecks for travelling to Power 4 opponents to play. If a neutral site was chosen, the gate split would need to be determined for each school. And whether the series is yearly or played every two or four years is also a question that would need answered.
