The 4 worst head coaching hires in WVU football history
By Sam Fariss
After half a decade as the Mountaineer's assistant coach, Frank Cignetti Sr. was promoted to the head coaching role for WVU.
Over his four years as the team's head coach, Cignetti failed to have a single winning season. In 1978, the Mountaineers finished at an abysmal 2-9 overall.
In Cignetti's three seasons that weren't as terrible were 2-9, the Mountaineers finished at just 5-6 overall.
Shockingly, Cignetti went on to coach the IUP Crimson Hawks for two decades and an incredible 182-50-1 overall record. Because of his tenure with IUP, Cignetti was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame in 2013.
