It was announced by ESPN 's Pete Thamel on Sunday that sources have confirmed that current Drake men's basketball coach Darian Devries is will likely be named the next WVU head men's basketball coach. In addition, it is expected DeVries will sign a five-year deal with the school.
This follows a WVU insider football account on Twitter known only as "Huddy Tuddy" leaking news earlier this week that his sources had confirmed DeVries was headed to Morgantown as well.
I’m a football guy but I’m hearing from a reliable place that DeVries 🤝🏻 WVU 🔜

Huge way to start building the team, with a senior NBA prospect who has gone to a pair of NCAA tournaments.
DeVries will be the 22nd head coach in WVU's program history, and only the fourth since 1978 (fifth if 2023-24 interim Josh Eilert is included). He will finish his six season tenure at Drake with a record of 150-55, winning 25+ games in each of the last four seasons. He has taken Drake to the NCAA Tournament in three of the past four seasons, including an appearance this season, where Drake lost to Washington State in the first-round.
