Nehlen is a Morgantown native with deep ties to the program -- the grandson of legendary WVU head coach Don Nehlen, he suited up for the program at wide receiver from 2008-2012 and served an an analyst for the Mountaineers once previously from 2018-2022, coaching under both Dana Holgorsen and Neal Brown.
Prior to his time at McNeese State and his first coaching stint in Morgantown, he served various roles at Michigan, Glenville State (WV), and Akron.
While the exact details of Nehlen’s responsibilities in this go-round are yet to be released, his previous role in Morgantown involved general game film analysis and assisting with the preparation of offensive game plans.
During his career on the gridiron at WVU, Nehlen saw significant offensive playing time during his junior and senior seasons, recording 12 receptions for 101 yards and two touchdowns.
In addition to Nehlen making the move to Morgantown, Zenitz reports that current WVU graduate assistant Ty Hinson will be joining the staff at NcNeese State, filling the position formerly occupied by Nehlen.
