Pat McAfee has done his part this week to bring some attention to his alma mater.

Of course, bringing his nationally televised sports talk show to Morgantown for a live, on-site broadcast that essentially resulted in a three-hour pep rally was one hell of a start.

But it turns out he and his former WVU teammates are coming together to do a bit more than that.

McAfee announced on the show Friday that he will be donating $1 Million to the Country Roads Trust, the main NIL collective for WVU sports.

The donation is a group effort from McAfee and a number of his fellow teammates during his time at WVU, where they were perennial national championship and BCS contenders under Rich Rodriguez and Bill Stewart. McAfee was joined by two former teammates from that era, fullback Owen Schmitt and quarterback Pat White, on the show Friday. He made the announcement with his brothers by his side, making note of how lucky he was to play during one of the team's top eras.

“I will be donating $1 million to the West Virginia NIL collective,” McAfee said. “And it will not be in my name, it will be from the entire team that I played alongside. It was all of us. I was very lucky to be on a team with you, Pat White. I was very lucky to be on a team with you, Owen Schmitt. Reed Williams, Darius Reynaud."

McAfee also talked about what it means for that generation of WVU football to give back to current generation and help ensure the legacy that helped build in Morgantown continues.

“You go through the list of absolute dogs from front to back that we had on those teams, that changed this entire place. From our West Virginia team to this new West Virginia team, we want to say ‘thank you for the hospitality.’ One million bucks, I hope you spend it in the right way. And let’s enjoy the shit out of a weekend in Morgantown, West Virginia.”
