As Pat McAfee brought his nationally televised talk show to Morgantown on Friday ahead of the Week 1 clash between West Virginia and No. 8 Penn State, he brought a number of guests out onstage.

One of those guests, Pat White, played quarterback during McAfee’s tenure on the team and led the Mountaineers to four straight bowl victories and multiple BCS appearances. He’s widely considered amongst the WVU fandom to be one of the program’s greatest players ever.

Another guest that made an appearance was current WVU athletic director Wren Baker, who had nothing but love to offer for the Mountaineer legend.

“Pat White truly is a generational player, one of the all-time greats,” Baker said.

And before Baker managed to make it off stage, Pat McAfee called on Baker to make a move that many Mountaineer fans will likely support -- retire the No. 5 jersey that White donned during his time in Morgantown.

“That number five, after this season, needs to never be worn again,” McAfee said. “You know that, you’ve shown massive respect to Pat White throughout this entire thing, and we appreciate the hell out of you man.”

Whether Baker anticipated the question coming or it was an impromptu gesture on the part of McAfee, Baker seemed receptive to the suggestion, indicating that it may be something that happens sooner rather than later.

“I love Pat, and that’s definitely something that needs to be considered, and it will for sure,” Baker said.
