Neal Brown provides update on WVU football injured players as preseason camp begins
By Joseph Smith
As West Virginia football began preseason camp on Wednesday, Neal Brown spent some time post-practice updating the press on the team’s injury situation.
Brown noted that several crucial returning pieces who suffered injuries either during spring practice or last fall have returned. Amongst the top names amongst that group are running CJ Donaldson Jr. and tight end Kole Taylor, who are both available for full practices. Joining them is Northwestern transfer and defensive back Jaheem Joseph, who was injured this spring but returns for full practice now.
Among those who have returned to practice but are limited in what they can and cannot do physically are incoming wide receiver Dom Collins and three defensive returners from last season in cornerback Jacolby Spells, defensive linemen Asani Redwood and Oryend Fisher.
As reported earlier this week, incoming freshman offensive lineman Kyle Altuner is set to miss extended time this fall with a lower body injury, but Brown anticipates that Altuner will be back to practice before the regular season comes to a close.
Returning defensive lineman Corey McIntyre is also out with an injury which was suffered during spring practice. However, similar to Altuner, Brown indicated that McIntyre could potentially be back in action this fall. Also amongst the injured players are a pair of returners from last season’s roster who are unfortunately now medically disqualified from participation in college athletics due to injuries -- linebacker Jairo Faverus and defensive lineman Maurice Hamilton.
