National analyst hints at big conference realignment moves underway
By Joseph Smith
Last weekend, rumors abounded across the college sports world about potential further Big 12 Conference expansion as both college football radio host Greg Swaim, as well as Jason Scheer of Wildcat Authority, tweeted that sources pointed towards an "internal belief" within the league that Florida State and Clemson would join the Big 12 within the next year.
Now, further fuel is being added to the flames by Swaim -- who has a long history of correctly identifying potential realignment moves early in the process -- who dropped a series of tweets on Wednesday indicating that his sources have told him moves are currently being made behind the scenes which could affect "every Power 4 school" at some level.
Swaim first announced that his longest-tenured source on the conference realignment subject has given him information that "would sound insane" if released publicly, and that ACC schools looking to avoid the current situation of Oregon State and Washington State should "get ready to act quick." He followed up by telling his followers that "a lot of things [are] happening today" that could affect virtually every power conference school.
Swaim also seemed to indicate that feelings amongst those in the Big 12 are that Florida State may bring a sense of an entitlement to the league similar to recent departures Oklahoma and Texas, and that the answer to whether or not he wants to add such a program to the conference could be "closer to no."
His most recent tweet as of publishing this article was a GIF of dominoes falling in sequence, with the caption "it's happening." While it is just one reporters cryptic tweets, Swaim's history of accurate realignment predictions and his tenure as a reliable journalist could point towards more conference realignment news coming soon.
