Incoming West Virginia football freshman gets social media shoutout from college football legend

For the third time in 2024, an incoming West Virginia football freshman is receiving love from a football legend -- one who happens to be an alum of one of WVU's biggest rivals.
Former Virginia Tech quarterback Michael Vick, who had an illustrious collegiate and NFL career marred by controversy, sent out a tweet on Wednesday including a summer training from new WVU defensive lineman Zyir Daniel.
Vick used the tweet to hype up Daniel's collegiate future to his followers and also tagged a number of accounts that cover Big 12 football.
Vick also tweeted in January to congratulate Daniel on his commitment and again in April to highlight Daniel as a featured athlete by his recruiting service. The connection between the two is Rashad "Roc" Carmichael, another Virginia Tech alum who played at the college much more recently than Vick but bonded his fellow Hokie when they spent time together playing for the Philadelphia Eagles of the NFL. Daniel cites Carmichael as a mentor, and the connection came through Daniel and Vick's mutual relationship with him.
Daniel enrolled in WVU in January after committing as a preferred walk-on and spent the spring session practicing with the Mountaineers.
