West Virginia football knew headed into Saturday's clash with Oklahoma State that their opponent had one of the worst rushing defenses they'll likely see all season. And the Mountaineers were able to use it to their advantage every step of the way once the action started.
WVU's run game looked straight out of a video game, piling up an astonishing 389 yards on the ground en route to a 558-yard offensive performance and a 38-14 manhandling of the Cowboys in what Neal Brown described as a team performance.
"Well we got ahead so it allowed us to do that," Brown said about the run game.
The run attack was a three-headed monster led by Jahiem White's 158-yard, one touchdown performance and supplemented by a 86 rushing yards and a score from quarterback Garrett Greene and 77 rushing yards and two touchdowns from CJ Donaldson Jr.
After major concerns arose before the bye week about the WVU defense, the Mountaineers were stout defensively as well, limiting the Cowboys to 227 total offensive yards.
"I thought our defense was special," Brown said.
Brown hopes that the game is a statement victory for folks doubting the team after a 2-2 start, despite the losses coming to a pair of Power 4 opponents who are currently 10-0 on the season.
We got a good football team and i think because of how we started the year people slept on us a little bit," Brown said.
