Garrett Greene, West Virginia's star senior quarterback, was selected to be on the 2024 Maxwell Award watchlist. The Maxwell Award represents the best all-around player in college football every year and is one of the best awards a college football player can receive. Greene is one of the 80 candidates and is the lone Mountaineer on the list.
The Big 12 boasts with 17 candidates selected for the award, which is one behind the ACC which has the most out of any conference. The last three Maxwell Award winners were Alabama's Bryce Young in 2021, USC's Caleb Williams in 2022, and Washington's Michael Penix Jr. in 2023.
Greene, a Tallahassee, Fla. native, is the first West Virginia player to be nominated for the watchlist since J.T. Daniels was nominated back in 2022. Greene put together a very impressive 2023 campaign with 2,406 passing yards and 16 passing touchdowns added with 772 rushing yards and 13 rushing touchdowns. He capped the year off as Duke's Mayo Bowl MVP with 292 all-purpose yards as WVU beat North Carolina 30-10.
As one of the best dual-threat quarterbacks in the country, Greene is looking to build off of his 2023 season to lead this Mountaineer team to even more success in the 2024 season that starts off with a huge game in Morgantown against a familiar foe in Penn State.
