Former West Virginia head coach earned himself a victory over the Mountaineers last fall with his then-current team Houston, but by the end of the 2023 season, he was out of a job as he was dismissed by the Cougars.

However, that doesn’t quite mean the Mountaineers won’t see Holgorsen on the gridiron anymore, as ESPN reports that he may be returning to the Big 12 once again.

It appears that his landing spot will be TCU, where he would be a member of head coach Sonny Dykes’ staff. The pair spent time coaching together at Texas Tech in the mid-2000s under Mike Leach’s staff, with the pair sharing offensive coordinator duties from 2005-2006.

The deal is yet to be completed and the position on the staff Holgorsen will occupy is still unknown, but sources do expect Holgorsen to be on this year’s staff in Fort Worth. Once official it will be Holgorsen’s fifth Big 12 stop over the course of his career -- in addition to Houston, Texas Tech, WVU, he also spent time with Oklahoma State. He will also be the third 2023 FBS head coach on Dykes’ staff this season as an assistant, joining former Boise State coach Andy Avalos and former Nevada coach Ken Wilson.
