In one of the worst seasons across the board this season, the West Virginia Mountaineers entered the Big 12 Men’s Basketball Tournament with a 9-22 overall record.

Trying to resurrect an abysmal first season under interim head coach Josh Eilert, 14-seed WVU faced the 11-seed Cincinnati Bearcats in the First Round. Cincinnati was, by far, the favorite to win the game and looked dominant in the first half.

However, as the game continued to unfold, the Mountaineers found something that they hadn’t all season: success.

Despite the Mountaineer’s double-digit lead about halfway through the second half, technical fouls and a lack of control got in the way of them earning their tenth win this season.

Cincinnati battened down the hatches and held out against WVU. The Bearcats walked away with a 90-85 win… and West Virginia fans didn’t hold back their disappointment after the 16-point blown lead.

This was Cincinnati's first-evert Big 12 postseason game as the Bearcats joined the conference at the start of the 2023-24 season.

The Bearcats will play Kansas in the quarterfinals of the Big 12 Tournament. Fans can tune into ESPN2 to watch the Cincinnati game against the Jayhawks on March 13 at 9:30 p.m. ET.
