WVU swimming and diving is building a staff on the back of local talent.

Following the addition of Bridgeport native Michael Walker as the associate head coach earlier this year, head coach Brent MacDonald announced Tuesday that South Charleston native and Fairmont State alum David Dent would be joining the program as an assistant coach.

"I have been a lifelong Mountaineer fan, so joining the Gold and Blue is a dream come true," Dent said. "I owe a huge thanks to head coach Brent MacDonald for this opportunity. I am excited to bring my experience to this amazing program and help achieve new heights."

Dent has spent the past six seasons leading Florida Tech at the Division 2 level, where he has had multiple NCAA Championship qualifiers and led the program to appearances in College Swimming and Diving Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) Top 25 last winter.

"We are really excited to welcome David to Morgantown and back to West Virginia," MacDonald said. "David has held a wide range of responsibilities in coaching, and I know that I'm going to be able to task him with anything and he'll run with it. He's ready to set down roots and help us build this program."

As a competitor, Dent held seven program records at Fairmont State (WV) and was a qualifier in 2013 for both the NCAA Division 2 Championships and the USA Swimming Winter Nationals.
