West Virginia football added it's first commitment since the spring transfer portal window opened, as former Charlotte defensive back Dontez Fagan announced this weekend he'd be joining the Mountaineers for the 2024 season. The commitment came after a successful Gold-Blue Spring Game on Saturday.

Fagan comes to Morgantown from humble origins -- he began his career at the Division 2 level with Central Oklahoma. After a redshirt season in 2019 and a missed season due to COVID-19 in 2020, he was a vital contributor in 2021 for the program

From their he spent 2022 at the JUCO level for Independence Community College, and was considered a two-star JUCO prospect before earning an offer to play for Charlotte at the Division 1 level last season. He put together an impressive 2023 campaign for the 49ers, where he tallied 21 tackles, forced four pass breakups, and nabbed one interception. In this clip from ESPN, you can see him secure that takeaway against South Florida.

On film, Fagan shows an innate ability to make athletic plays on the ball while it's in the air, diving to deflect passes and pulling in an interception after falling a few steps behind a receiver in coverage. He also demonstrates a talent for sticking with his assignment through the whistle and a quick reaction time to short passes and run plays.
