Don't look now, but Pitt head coach Pat Narduzzi still seems to be a bit upset over The Backyard Brawl.
The Panthers are having a wildly successful season, currently sitting 7-2 overall and ranked No. 22 in the nation – this week, they'll be at the center of the college football world as they host College GameDay ahead of their clash with No. 9 Notre Dame this week at Acrisure Stadium in Pittsburgh.
On Friday, Narduzzi sat down with Pat McAfee on his eponymous ESPN talk show ahead of the massive weekend for the Panther. McAfee, a Pittsburgh native who also serves as an analyst on GameDay and played kicker for the West Virginia Mountaineers, made sure to take the opportunity to troll Narduzzi a bit over the head-to-head result between the Mountaineers and Panthers earlier this season.
Fresh off the heels of WVU men's basketball securing a 71-49 win over Pitt at Hope Coliseum in Morgantown on Thursday night, McAfee asked Narduzzi if he "heard about last night," in reference to the the Panthers' loss on the hardwood. Narduzzi used the opportunity to take shots at WVU, who won the game against Pitt in football earlier this fall with a 31-24 overtime victory, but is currently having a worse overall season than the Panthers.
"Did Bob Huggins come back last night," Narduzzi asked mockingly about WVU's basketball win before pivoting to football. "I tell you this, it’s about finishing. It’s not a one-game season. It’s about finishing. You can win a big game, but can you compete and do it week in and week out? Pitt does that.
Did you see that basketball game last night @CoachDuzzPittFB 😂😂

The confrontation over the Brawl continued on in a feisty manner, with McAfee firing back at Narduzzi that "we beat you guys," which gave Narduzzi an opening to insinute Pitt only lost to WVU football this September due to a missed call.
"No, you didn’t beat us. We beat ourselves, but it’s okay. Go put the tape on. Go put the video on. They don’t call illegal procedures anymore," Narduzzi said.
While Narduzzi may want to deny it or throw accusations at the officials, the fact is that the Panthers lost to West Virginia on the gridiron this season, and will have bragging rights until at least 2029, when the series is set to be renewed after a four-year basis. It seems despite the Panthers' strong season, Narduzzi is struggling to cope with that.
