Pat McAfee is used to dealing with adversity. From death threats sent his way during his days playing football at West Virginia after the team's infamous 13-9 loss to Pitt in the 2007 Backyard Brawl, to a stiff-looking -- yet ultimately scripted -- showdown just last month with current WWE World Heavyweight Champion Gunther at the company's Backlash event, McAfee is no stranger to uncomfortable situations.
But while he'll handle his storylines in a professional wrestling ring with a smile and brash attitude, and he flipped his poor Backyard Brawl performance for WVU football into a legendary NFL career, there was one segment he partook in during his role as a personality on ESPN College GameDay last season which apparently got under his skin.
According to a report from Andrew Marchand of The Athletic, McAfee took part in a segment on the show where he was given an at-bat against an Oklahoma University softball pitcher. McAfee was shown on camera swinging and missing while facing the pitcher, and was reportedly unhappy that the segment madeit to TV.
Marchand wrote that McAfee "grew upset" once he realized the segment had aired, and "demanded to know the name of the GameDay staff member" that was responsible for the segment making it on television. But much to McAfee's chagrin, he was denied access to the staffer's identity.
According to the report, the West Virginia Mountaineer alum has also considered the idea of an independent GameDay-style show, but as of now, no plans seem to be made for that to come to fruition.
