The West Virginia Mountaineers are getting used to the underdog role this season.

After entering Week 11 as the betting favorites in a contest for the first time in over two months, WVU football backed up the oddsmakers' predictions and beat Colorado 29-22, earning a two-game winning streak for the Mountaineers.

But the oddsmakers must not be too impressed with West Virginia depsite that winning streak, as the opening odds have been released for WVU's upcoming clash with Arizona State and the Mountaineers areack to being the underdog – and a heavy underdog at that.

The Sun Devils will enter the game as a favorite by more than a touchdown, as the odds opened with Arizona State as 9.5-point favorites over the Mountaineers next weekend. The points total in the matchup is currently set at 47.5 points.

The Sun Devils will enter the game against the Mountaineer 6-3 on the season and 4-2 in Big 12 play, and are coming off a bye week that followed a victory over the Iowa State Cyclones. But Arizona State will be without their starting quarterback, as Sam Leavitt will miss the rest of the season due to injury.

Meanwhile, the Mountaineers will likely be fired up entering the game as they now are on their first win streak of the season and suddenly find a season that had been hampered by every bit of bad luck imaginable inching closer to ending with bowl eligibility for the Mountaineers. But to do so, they will have to beat the odds against Arizona State.
