It was announced moments ago by Pete Nakos of On3 Sports that North Carolina State offensive lineman Robby Martin is hitting the transfer portal -- Martin was the top-rated recruit out of the state of West Virginia in the Class of 2024 before spending his freshman season with NC State.
Martin is a Huntington native and graduate of Huntington High School, where he is a former WVSSAC Class AAA State Champion at the 285-pound weight class in wrestling and helped lead the Highlanders to a Class AAA State Football Championship win as well.
Martin is the second Cabell County native to leave NC State in the portal as Cabell Midland alum and Barboursville native Cannon Lewis transferred to Marshall -- the linebacker followed former NC State defensive coordinator and new Marshall head coach Tony Gibson, who is also a West Virginia native.
Martin will likely be a top target for the Mountaineers, who enter the offseason with a seriously depleted offensive line and should be eager to see a native son with Power 4 experience in the portal. But it's likely he'll receive attention from numerous power conference programs as well as Marshall, his hometown college with one of his recruiters now leading the program.
