New WVU men's basketball head coach Ross Hodge has not come to Morgantown empty handed.
Hodge brought some critical pieces with him from North Texas in his move to the Mountaineers, including his starting point guard. West Virginia will be the third stop at the Division 1 level for senior guard Jasper Floyd, who began his collegiate career at the JUCO level in Florida – and identifying JUCO talent is something Hodge is good at. He first played at Northwest Florida State College, followed by Hillsborough Community College in 2022-23. Floyd spent the next season at Fairfield, before being found by his current coach. He then helped lead Coach Hodge’s Mean Green to the NIT a season ago.
"Jasper has been a winner at every level of competition. He has incredible intangibles and is a great leader. He makes others around him better on and off the floor," Hodge said of Floyd earlier this year.
Fairfield (2023-24)
At Fairfield, the 6’3 guard started in 35 of 37 games. He averaged 9.5 points, 5.9 rebounds, 4.1 assists and 2.4 steals per game. He helped lead the Stags to a 22-12 record and a CBI Semifinal appearance. His 87 steals set a school record for a single season. Floyd led the team in assists, rebounds, and steals and was one of only two players in the nation to average at least six rebounds, four assists, and two steals per game.
North Texas (2024-25)
During the 2024-25 season, Jasper Floyd helped North Texas reach the NIT semifinals and achieve a 24-8 regular season record. Floyd started in all 36 games and engineered the North Texas offense with a +2 assist-to-turnover ratio. At North Texas, Floyd posted similar numbers to those of the year prior at Fairfield. As the point guard of the Mean Green, Floyd averaged nine points, 3.9 assists, 3 rebounds, and 1.3 steals per game. The efficient point guard also recorded five or more assists in 15 games.
