WVU baseball closed out the regular season with a series win and a second-place finish in the Big 12, and now they will be moving on to the Big 12 Tournament, where they will get a double-bye before beginning their journey towards securing a Big 12 Tournament Championship. And the Mountaineers might want to put up an impressive performance if they'd like to achieve another one of their big goals.
The Mountaineers are hoping to bring back an NCAA Regional to Morgantown for the first time since 2019. While they've done a lot of work to make that happen, they're on the 'host seed bubble,' so to speak. And one new postseason projection from Baseball America has them as a No. 2 seed in the tournament, leaving work to be done at the conference tournament for the Mountaineers.

Baseball America projects West Virginia Mountaineers as 2-seed in NCAA Tournament
The newest projection from Baseball America has WVU listed as the No. 2 seed in the Corvallis Regional, hosted by Oregon State as the 1-seed. The Mountaineers are listed as the 19th-overall seed in the tournament projection, with the Top 16 seeds earning host status.
In an interesting turn, the Mountaineers are matched up with the 16th overall seed in the NCAA Regional, despite the fact that the 19th-seed is typically matched with 14th-overall seed. That's because Baseball America has Kansas projected as the No. 14 overall seed and a host site, despite the Mountaineers sweeping the Jayhawks earlier this month, and the tournament will avoid pairing conference rivals in the regional round.
This projection, if it came to pass, would be a massive blow to the Mountaineers, Not only do you miss out on the opportunity to host and the benefits which come with it, but you're forced to make a cross-country trek to Oregon to play in the regional round, and then if you win, you must come all the way home before likely making another trip for the Super Regional.
