One of the best parts of a West Virginia football home win at Milan Puskar Stadium is the singing of "Take Me Home, Country Roads" by the players and fans. It was a tradition started by current head coach Rich Rodriguez during his first stint with the program in the mid-2000s, and it's an experience the Mountaineers got to have for the first time in nearly two months after securing a 29-22 win over the Colorado Buffaloes on Saturday.
One player who played a massive role in the win over the Buffaloes was redshirt freshman running back Diore Hubbard, who caught a 69-yard wheel pass from quarterback Scotty Fox Jr. to set up one of WVU's touchdowns and finished the game leading the team in both rushing and receiving with 158 all-purpose yards in the victory.
After the game, Hubbard was asked about the post-game tradition, and what it was like for him to get to sing a song so intricately linked with the state he now represents with a packed stadium joining in for the first time in months.
"It's magic. It's a magical feeling," Hubbard said of the Mountaineers' post-game tradition.

Hubbard has partaken in the tradition before, but this was the first time he got to join in the singing Country Roads after being one of the premier offensive weapons featured in a victory. With three more years of eligibility ahead of him, fans will hope that Hubbard is around for many more renditions of the John Denver classic.
Hubbard and WVU football will get one more opportunity at leading the fans in the song this season, as they'll return to Milan Puskar Stadium on November 29 against Texas Tech in a game that could propel the Mountaineers into a bowl game if they can win against Arizona State this coming weekend as well. The Red Raiders were ranked No. 8 in this week's AP Poll, and will likely be a top-ten team entering Morgantown if they avoid an upset next week at UCF.
