If Ross Hodge has proven anything during his stint leading the West Virginia Mountaineers, it's that he knows how to recruit. Over the past year, he's landed five-star Class of 2026 guard Miles Sadler and four-star Class of 2026 center Amadou Seini – the latter of whom was a bit of hidden gem, with Hodge seeking him out while he was still unrated.
Between those additions, a stellar back-end to that same incoming freshman class, and a massive transfer portal haul, the Mountaineers werenamed one of the big offseason winnersin Division 1 college basketball.
But he's also been hard at worktargeting big namesin future high school classes, and Hodge has put himself in a position to make his next big recruiting splash with one player who has a connection with one of Hodge's current players.
2027 4-star Javion Tyndale narrows recruitment to six schools, includes WVU basketball
On Monday evening, we learned that Javion Tyndale, a Class of 2027 four-star prospect playing for Montverde Academy (FL) and the cousin of incoming freshman Miles Sadler, hasnarrowed his collegiate searchto just six schools – and the West Virginia Mountaineers made the cut.

According to the 247Sports composite rankings, Tyndale isthe 57th-best overall playerand 12th-best point guard nationally. He is also considering Providence, UNLV, Seton Hall, Loyola (Chicago) and St. Bonaventure.
This is a massive opportunity for Hodge to make another impactful move on the recruiting trail. The other schools in the mix are all Big East or mid-major programs, and none are college basketball blue bloods or powerhouses.
It evens the playing field a bit more than West Virginia might typically see for a prospect, and Hodge already has an edge via the connection of having already successfully recruited Tyndale's cousin. And with the finanical situation improving strongly for the athletic department in Morgantown, Hodge is in the perfect position to land an elite point guard for the second consecutive season.
