Michael Hawkins Jr.'s father shares thrilling update from WVU football scrimmage

Last Saturday, the West Virginia Mountaineers held their first intra-squad scrimmage since beginning fall camp a week and a half earlier. And while fans and media members were not present, there were a few eyes on the action. And one person who was in attendance had some high praise for one of West Virginia's position groups.

Quarterback Michael Hawkins Jr.'s father was in attendance on Saturday, hinting that family members of players were allowed to get an early look at what things might look like this fall for the Mountaineers. And while there was also plenty of buzz going around Morgantown about his son, the former NFL player seemed more impressed with those assigned the job of protecting his son.

In a social media post over the weekend, Hawkins Sr. gushed abouthow excited he waswith the offensive line play from the Mountaineers during the scrimmage on Saturday, giving West Virginia fans even more hope that one of the big issues with the team's offense last season has been corrected.

"One of the most impressive things I seen from going to the WVU scrimmage yesterday was Coach Trickett and the physicality from the offensive line," wrote Hawkins. "Really impressive group. Top to bottom with a phenomenal coach!!!!!!!"

No shortage of ink was wasted last season by fans and the media voicing their opinions on the poor performance of the offensive line, and it clearlyweighed heavily on Rich Rodriguezas the season went on as well. That's part of the reason why that position group was the subject of a heavy overhaul in the portal and high school recruiting class this offseason.
