WVU women's basketball head coach Mark Kellogg has added a new face to his coaching staff as his team prepares for the season.

Last week, it was announced the Mountaineers had hired Kasondra McKay to join West Virginia to serve both as an assistant coach as well as the program’s Director of Recruiting. McKay brings veteran experience to the WVU sideline, as she enters her 11th season as a collegiate coach.

"We are so excited to welcome Coach McKay to our Mountaineer women's basketball staff, " Kellogg said. "She will bring passion, energy, and invaluable recruiting experience to our program. Kasondra will develop close relationships with recruits and their families and push our players to excel on the court. Mountaineer fans, please welcome Kasondra and her family to Morgantown."

McKay joins the Mountaineers after a two-season stint with Colorado State, where she served as an assistant coach and recruiting coordinator.McKay helped the Rams to back-to-back 20-plus win seasons, including a 2024-2025 campaign that saw the program record 22 wins – which marked the winningest season for the program in nearly a decade. McKay also recruited Kloe Froebe and Brooke Carlson to Colorado State, who both became Mountain West Conference (MWC) All-Freshman selections.

McKay has also previously spent stints coaching at Northwestern State, North Texas and LA Tech. As a collegiate player, she was a two-year letterwoman at North Texas from 2010-2012 after beginning her career at Weatherford Community College.

Kellogg recently addressed the unique challenge he and his staff, including McKay, will face when they begin preseason practices ahead of the 2025-2026 season.

“We have more newcomers than we do returners, which is the first time in my coaching career – I guess this will be year 21 – that it’s been that way, other than when I took over a program, I guess” Kellogg said. “But any time I’ve been returning, we’ve never had more newcomers than returners.”
