Latest on Neal Brown's future at WVU: "Deep discussions" underway, leadership "wants" to keep him
By Joseph Smith
It is up in the air whether or not West Virginia football Head Coach Neal Brown’s future has been decided yet, but “deep discussions” about his future appear to be underway.
News broke from Football Scoop on Sunday morning that sources have said Brown and the athletic department leadership were in talks regarding his future with WVU – those same sources also seemed to confirm previous reporting that Brown’s alma mater UMass may be interested in the veteran head coach to fill their opening for the same spot.
In addition, it was also mentioned that sources said other athletic directors have called to do background work on Brown as well – indicating he may be able to find a landing spot quickly if he does leave or is terminated.
Another WVU media personality who writes for Medium blog Talkineers indicated on social media that these rumors confirm what he has heard as well, and that he was told the first meeting discussing Brown’s future came on November 21st.
According to veteran MetroNews correspondent Hoppy Kercheval on the 3 Guys Before The Game podcast on Sunday, Athletic Director Wren Baker and President Gordon Gee want to keep Brown on board, but “the pressure grows when you have the kind of performance that you did in that game.”
