Kerr Kriisa arrested in connection to stunning crimes during WVU stint

The former West Virginia guard is currently in the custody of the FBI.

Former West Virginia basketball star Kerr Kriisa is in the headlines on Independence Day – but unlike America's birthday, the latest update on Kriisa is nothing to celebrate.

On3 reported on Saturday that Kriisa had been arrested by the FBI. Kriisa was reportedly taken into custody on federal charges in connection to a "multi-million dollar fraud scheme" that the occurred during his time with the Mountaineers from 2023-2024. Reporting indicated he will be extradited back to West Virginia to stand trial this coming week.

Former West Virginia Mountaineers basketball star arrested by FBI

Kriisa spent just one season with the Mountaineers, transferring into the program ahead of the 2023-2024 season. Initially recruited by Bob Huggins, he re-entered the portal when Huggins resigned following a DUI that summer, but then reaffirmed his commitment to the program once Huggins' assistant Josh Eilert took over the interim role.

Kriisa missed nine games that season due to a suspension, but then went on to start all 23 games he appeared in for the Mountaineers, averaging 11.0 points, 4.7 assists, and 2.5 rebounds per game. Before his time with West Virginia, he spent three seasons with the Arizona Wildcats.

After he left Morgantown, he would play transfer to Kentucky, and after he missed most of the season due to injury, he transferred once more to Cincinnati, where he played hi final collegiate season this past year. He had recently been announced as a 2026 participant for Kentucky alumni squad La Familia in The Basketball Tournament (TBT).
