Jordan Harrison is proving she belongs in the WNBA despite rough start to pro career

Things did not get off to the best start for former WVU women's basketball guard Jordan Harrison once she embarked on her professional career. But now, she's getting herself back on track to be a future WNBA standout.

Harrison recently stepped up with a career-best performance for the Portland Fire, a WNBA expansion franchise also in their first season in the league. Amid injury struggles for the Fire, Harrison was thrust into a massive role in a recent showdown with the Seattle Storm, whereshe proved she was ready for the heat– scoring 13 points, seven rebounds, and six assists in a win for Portland. The performance was enough for the franchise to promote her back toa standard contract.

Former WVU star earning her role with the Portland Fire

The Fire signed Harrison as an undrafted free agent, and she made the opening day roster for the franchise beforegetting demoteda developmental contact. But now, she is making sure that her first opportunity to make a name for herself in the WNBA was not also her last impression.

Harrison is a high-caliber player, which is something that West Virginia fans know well after watching her for three years.Her senior year was cappedby leading the Mountaineers to a Big 12 Tournament Championship and the opportunity to host NCAA Tournament action. As a senior, she earned first-team All-Big 12 honors and was named Big 12 Defensive Player of the Year and a honorable mention All-American.

Now, despite being overlooked in the WNB Draft and getting her professional career off to a slower start, she is getting a chance to prove that she belongs at the highest level of the sport. And performances like her most recent effort make it clear that's not just her opinion, but a fact.
