Zach Frazier earned his reputation for the West Virginia Mountaineers during their collegiate career as one of the best centers to ever lace up his cleats for the program. Now, he's attempting to embark upon a similar journey in the NFL.
Frazier has gotten off to a strong start in that goal, piecing together an impressive first two seasons at the professional level. He was selected in the second round of the 2024 NFL Draft, and started 15 games in his first season. He won the Joe Green Award as the top rookie inside the organization as a rookie, and was also named to the PFWA All-Rookie Team.
He followed up that performance in his second season by fully securing the starting role, starting in 16 games and appearing in all 17. Now, as the West Virginia native is set to embark on his third season in the league, many experts believe he has the capability to be the top center in the entire league.
ESPN's Benjamin Solak recently published an article containing one breakout player for each team in the NFL, and he listed Frazier for the Steelers – and not only that, but he showered Frazier with higher praise than anyone else on that list.
"Film heads love Frazier, who might simply be the best offensive lineman still on a rookie contract," Solak wrote. "NFL Next Gen Stats had Frazier with a 2.7% QB pressure rate surrendered last season — the single best mark of any offensive lineman with at least 300 snaps. Of all the players on this list, Frazier would be my bet to eventually become the best player at his position in the NFL."
This will come as no surprise to fans of the West Virginia Mountaineers, who watched Frazier immediately inherit a starting role in his first season with the Mountaineers and then dominate his competition for four consecutive seasons. Now, WVU fans have the opportunity to watch their native son evolve into one of the top players in the league.
