West Virginia men's basketball will be moving onto their fourth head coach in four years.

It was made official from Indiana basketball on Tuesday evening that the Hoosiers have hired WVU Head Coach Darian DeVries for their opening. This comes after DeVries spent just one season in Morgantown.

DeVries was hired after a successful stint at Drake, where he won multiple conference championships and trips to the NCAA Tournament. He was tasked with rebuilding his roster from scratch at WVU, and used the portal to piece together an already under-sized rotation that was whittled down to injury after losing starting forward (and coach's son) Tucker DeVries in December and probably starter Jayden Stone during the preseason.

The Mountaineers still managed to finish 19-13 while often utilizing just an eight-man rotation, and were considered a lock for the NCAA Tournament field before getting snubbed by the committee in a shocking decision.

The Mountaineers will now seek some sort of stability following an unstable three years -- long-time coach Bob Huggins was terminated following a DUI in Pittsburgh and dropping a slur on a radio broadcast following the 2022-2023 season. His staffer Josh Eilert was promoted as Interim head Coach to lead the Mountaineers in 2023-2024, and after a historically poor season that ended with just nine wins, he was let go.

WVU Athletic Director Wren Baker released a statement indicating he'd worked closely with DeVries to ensure the administration was committed to further developing the program and achieving success but that DeVries decided to take his newest offer. He also thanked DeVries for his short stint with WVU.

That brought DeVries to Morgantown, but despite his historic brand loyalty, a program with resources the Mountaineers could not match came calling. DeVries will be followed by his son Tucker, insider Jeff Goodman reports -- Tucker DeVries was the team's second-leading scorer before his injury and was a multi-time Missouri Valley Conference Player of the Year.
