Honor Huff, Jordan Harrison honored by Big 12 Conference for recent performances

Both the West Virginia men's and women's basketball teams saw players honored after huge upsets this past week.

After the WVU men's basketball team went 2-0 over the last week with a Top 25 upset over Kansas, and the Mountaineers women's team went 1-1 with a Top 25 upset over Iowa State, one player from each squad has been honored by the Big 12 Conference for thier recent performances.

On the men's side, Honor Huff was named the Big 12 Newcomer of the Week, which is awarded weekly to the top player in the league who is in their first season of Big 12 play. Huff, a senior who transferred to the Mountaineers from Chattanooga, leads WVU with 17.5 points per game this season. This past week against Cincinnati and Kansas, Huff averaged Huff averaged 23.5 points and 7.5 rebounds per game and helped the Mountaineers earn their first Top 25 win under first-year head coach Ross Hodge.

Huff started his week against the Bearcats with a 24 point, eight rebound effort to help lead his team to a narrow victory. Then, later in the week in the upset over the Jayhawks, Huff drained four three-point shots en route to a 23 point, seven rebound effort. It is Huff's first time earning the award this season. He was also named to the Big 12 Starting Five, which honors the top five players in the league each week.

For the women, Jordan Harrison was named to the Big 12 Starting Five for the Mountaineers after recording 41 points, 13 assists, 10 rebounds, and eight steals across two games. In the first game of the week, a narrow 71-66 loss to No. 17 Texas Tech, Harrison scored 22 points and added five rebounds, five assists, and one steal. Later in the week, she had an even more well-rounded game to help WVU knock off No. 11 Iowa State on Sunday, tallying 19 points, eight assists, seven steals, and five rebounds in the victory.
